Automating the process of preparation of medications doses for more accuracy and speed and to guaranty patient’s safety

Within the frame work of the Hospital’s commitment to continuous improvement of its services to raise cure rates, the clinical pharmacy department initiated the first steps towards automating the preparation of medication doses through its acquisition of the latest North American equipment for the preparation of cancer medications. This equipment is semi- automated and enables the pharmacist to prepare a larger number of medication doses with higher speed and precision. Featuring the barcode technique, the equipment guarantees safe preparation of medication doses and patient safety.

Through the new technology the pharmacist feeds the equipment with the required dose information according to prescription. The machine prepares accurately the required dose and places a ticket containing patient’s name and the prepared dose so the medication that will be delivered to day care to be given to the patient.

The equipment enables the preparation of a larger number of doses with high accuracy and offers protection to the staff and to the environment from being exposed to chemotherapy substances through a tight and sealed off  setting.
