In a new step towards raising recovery rates and improving our services, the hospital will start utilizing the latest technology in PET-CT imaging using “MCT FLOW UNLIMITED”, the first of its kind in Egypt. The equipment is funded by CIB who have previously granted the hospital an intra operative MRI that is used in imaging brain tumors during surgeries. The intra-operative MRI contributes to higher rate of successful brain surgeries and reduced post-surgery complications as it helps removing the tumor completely while preserving the surrounding brain tissue.

During a visit by the bank management to 57357, as they were touring the nuclear medicine department, they noticed a long line of patients waiting to receive the PET/CT scan through an equipment that could serve only 30 patients daily. Having been informed that the department’s future plan is to up-grade its equipment arsenal, CIB offered to sponsor two latest technology pieces of equipment that would double the capacity of the department.. The first machine is now installed and will start working in ten days while the second will be provided within the next three months.

Chatting with Prof. Dr. Walid Omar, head of the nuclear medicine department, he explains that the new PET/CT machine offers higher precision and speed in imaging cancer cells. It is equipped with a high resolution detector that spots  tumor cells in early stages, can discard images taken during respiration and saves only fixed ones which is a new technology enabling to avoid repeat the imaging in case the patient moved.

In order to be able to serve more patients and eliminate the waiting list, the department will use both the old and the new equipment for the next three months then replace the old one with the second new machine. The new equipment will serve 60 patients daily and will contribute to faster decision making regarding the treatment plan. Besides eliminating the waiting list, the new devices will enable the hospital to provide the service to external patients for a competitive price as the hospital is in possession of the cyclotron which provides the required radio-active elements necessary for performing this type of scan.

Dr. Omar adds: “our aspirations, for the provision of the best care to our children during their treatment journey, are endless. Accurate diagnosis is the key to the right treatment plan and accordingly a main factor in raising recovery rates with God’s will. As we seek continuous progress and development, our future expansion plans entail the acquisition of yet a new technology which combines positron scan and MRI, namely PT (MMR), enabling the imaging of physiological changes caused by the cancer which will help diagnosis and determining the treatment strategy. The hospital plans to acquire this device within two years.

Hospital 57357 is working hard to offer latest technology that contributes to the success of our children’s treatment journey. This is made possible thanks to one of our most committed partners, CIB, who never ceased to demonstrate all along years of cooperation, that it’s not just a bank but a strong partner in development and quality enhancement.
