57357 celebrates the world pharmacists’ day and signs cooperation protocols with faculties of pharmacy of Colorado University and Future University and the Arab pharmacists union

Under the slogan “Transforming Global Health”, Hospital 57357celebrated the world pharmacists’ day, in attendance of a group of national and international experts in the pharmacy field, secretary general of the Arab universities union, secretary general of Arab pharmacists union, vice president of the Egyptian drugs organization, a group of deans and faculty members of Egypt’s faculties of pharmacy, representatives of pharmacists syndicate and its branches, representatives of the Ministry of Health and a group of representatives of pharmacy industry and drug companies.

The celebration aims to spread awareness about the pharmacist’s role within the healthcare system and the community, discussing the latest scientific findings and challenges in the clinical pharmacy field . The event featured a presentation of the model of pharmacy practice in Hospital 57357 and the educational program the Hospital offers as part of its continuous education system as well as sharing pharmacists’ vision about improving pharmacy services and qualifying the pharmacist to face future challenges.

In a speech by Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama, president of 57357’s board of trustees, he expresses his delight with the event that reflects the collaboration between the society, the scientific community and healthcare professionals: our celebration today raises awareness about the pharmacist’s main role and the importance of boosting scientific research to achieve better outcomes for our children with cancer and patients in general. He also highlighted the leading role of 57357’s clinical pharmacy experience and practice, enabling the pharmacist to contribute to healthcare quality in Egypt, and the role of the Hospital in developing pharmacy education and training programs in cooperation with the world’s renowned universities.

Dr. Sherif Abouel Naga, executive director of 57357 group and the Hospital’s general manager, presented the Hospital leading experience in clinical pharmacy and its initiative to transfer its experience to Egypt’s hospitals, as well as the Hospital’s role in continuous education, developing pharmacists’ performance and insuring the safety and effectiveness of drug administration. Dr. Abouel Naga stressed on the importance of encouraging creative thinking and the importance of spreading clinical pharmacy education in Egypt’s faculties of pharmacy, so the thousands of graduates every year would know about what they will face in their future jobs.

The day agenda included two sessions:

In the first one, Dr. Aly Ibrahim, secretary general of the Arab pharmacists union, spoke about the new Arab board certificate, announcing its launch from Hospital 57357. He said that it aims to raise the Arab pharmacist’s expertise, scientifically and professionally so he would be as qualified as his counterpart in USA and Europe. This certificate program would include a recapitulation of the pharmacist’s university knowledge, then a specialized program that is equivalent to a master’s degree, which qualifies the pharmacist to practice his academic and clinical role.

Dr. Azza Agha, vice president of the Chinese University and former dean of the faculty of pharmacy, Cairo University, presented a new type education called IPE, where many specialties of healthcare providers are integrated. The doctors, pharmacists and nurses receive education at the same time, to work in an integrated system for the benefit of the patient. This approach is supported and recommended by the World Health Organization, WHO.

The second session: included international participation in discussions about the importance of the clinical pharmacy within the healthcare system. Sharing in the discussions were Dr. Ayman Nour Aldeen, dean of Pharmacy Faculty, Shareqa University, UAE, Dr. Usama Tabara, head of medication preparation and parenteral nutrition network in UAE, Dr. Joudy Malhorta, head of international cooperation of pharmacy faculty, Colorado University, Dr. Adriana Mestrofitch, coordinator of the expert pharmacist and smart pharmacy program in one of the world companies for developing pharmaceutical practices in Croatia and Dr. Mike Ross, head of pharmaceutical education accrediting authority.

Clinical pharmacy and its challenges:

Presentations were made by each of Dr. Kamal Sabra, professor of clinical pharmacy, University of Cork, Ireland and former Assistant Minister of Health for pharmaceutical affairs, Dr. Mohamed Mahmoud, head of clinical pharmacy of Hospital 57357 and Dr. Mustafa Alsalamoni, the oner of Aly and Aly pharmacies about the challenges that face clinical pharmacy in Egypt, and the efforts made to overcome all the obstacles and advance the pharmacist’s level.

Dr. Manal Zamzam, head of continuous education of medical and pharmaceutical programs in 57357, thanked 57357 for the efforts exerted to develop and train pharmacists through the education programs the Hospital offers in cooperation with the biggest world universities. She expressed her pride of the programs graduates, including the resident pharmacist program of which a cohort was graduating that day.

Dr. Sherif Kamal, head of 57357’s pharmaceutical services: the pharmacist plays an effective important role within the community, and in 57357 we work on activating it, stressing his efforts within the healthcare system and highlighting him as an important role model within the Hospital setting. We also present the educational programs and courses provided by the Hospital as part of the continuous education system, aiming to transfer experiences in clinical pharmacy and in pharmacy in general to the biggest possible number of hospitals in Egypt and in the world. The Hospital depends on 3 main pillars for its progress, the first is healthcare quality, the second is smart education, the third is research. After obtaining the Joint Commission International, JCI, accreditation, we embarked on improving the training system and the internal efficiency of the pharmacy, and establish the continuous education unit.

Signing a cooperation protocol with the University of Colorado, the Arab Academy for Developing Pharmaceutical skills, ADPS and Future University

A cooperation protocol was signed between the Faculty of Pharmacy, Colorado University and Hospital 57357, where the American authority responsible for accreditation of pharmaceutical education would accredit all of 57357 pharmacy courses,

A memorandum of understanding was signed by 57357 and Arab academy for developing pharmacist skills, an affiliate of the Arab pharmacists union and the Arab pharmacists board. Another memorandum of understanding was signed the Future University in the fields of education, training and research skills.

At the end of the celebration pharmacists victims of Corona virus were honored. 57357’s trophy was given to Mr, Mohamed Moheb, Dr. Reda Hamza, Dr. Sherif Kamal as the first contributors for establishing clinical pharmacy at the National Cancer Institute and 57357. The first founders of clinical pharmacy in 57357 were also honored. The day activities also included celebrating the graduation of the first cohort of the resident pharmacy program, and presenting the second cohort of the pharm D program.
