Dina Ali, head of the volunteers department revealed that the art and entertainment workshops and all volunteers’ activities were resumed as students passed exams and returned back to their activities at the Hospital. She said that volunteers used to be present in small numbers during the Corona waves, while taking precautionary measures to protect the children and themselves.
The department will start the puppet show activities, which will be conducted in coordination with the Hospital’s social and psychological department, to revise the show contents whether it is ethical, educational or deals with nutritional habits; she added.
She pointed to the importance of “grandma Nouni” activities in the volunteers department saying: through this activity, a volunteer girl wears an old woman’s clothes and goes to sick children to tell them nice stories, whether they are in groups or on their own. All the children wait for this weekly activity.
Ali asserted that the volunteers department activities are not restricted to entertaining sick children, they support the Hospital by inviting their friends, colleagues and families to donate to the Hospital. Lately they offered the cost of a much needed medical equipment.
Volunteers department exhibition:
Ali has also pointed to the importance of the volunteers’ department exhibition in supporting the Hospital. Through the exhibition, which is 100% depending on volunteers’ donations, they enable those who produce creative handicrafts and are unable to donate money to the Hospital to donate their productions for sale to the exhibition. The products can be crochet items, bags, accessories, knitting, and decoupage articles which they sell in favor of our children with cancer.
It is noteworthy that the volunteers department aims at encouraging society members to have a positive role in supporting the Hospital, where the department is committed to contributing to the provision of the best medical and psychological care to children with cancer. The department depends on those who voluntary give their time and efforts to entertain and support patients and their families, or to ease the workflow through the Hospital.
The department performs multiple activities such as administrative work, families support, Art works, visits, exhibitions and celebrations, Quran memorization, realizing patients’ wishes (Amina and Saeed), grandma Nouni, 57357’s children choir, decorating rooms, puppet show, celebrating children’s birthdays and external workshops.
