3. Basic Research Unit

In 2015, the hospital leadership decided to incorporate a fundamental research unit to delve into cancer-related questions, unraveling the intricate biology of the disease. Aiming to bridge the gap between theory and practice, the basic research unit initiative was the second foundation following the footsteps of the clinical research unit that was supported by an excellent digital data-driven approach with a focus on optimizing clinical data processes, monitoring protocols, conducting trials, and analyzing epidemiological data.

Focusing on genomic research, CCHE 57357 is running a Genomics and Epigenomics Research Program, an in-house laboratory boasting state-of-the-art equipment, including high-throughput technologies for genetic research and diagnostics. From whole genome sequencing to non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT), our dedicated team works tirelessly to unravel genetic mysteries and improve patient outcomes.

CCHE 57357 launched several translational research initiatives and projects, exploring population genetic and epigenetic factors in acute myeloid leukemia, choroid plexus tumors, pineal pure germinomas, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and spinal muscular atrophy. Our commitment to understanding the genetic basis of diseases drives progress.

The basic research unit runs seven specialized programs with researchers striving to uncover novel insights by working independently or collaborating on interdisciplinary projects. Active programs are imaging-based system biology, regenerative medicine, tumor biology, genomics and epigenomics, proteomics and metabolomics, microbiology and immunology, and clinical epidemiology.

Moreover, CCHE, launched in 2012, has a developed biorepository bank, a treasure trove of human biological specimens—tissues, blood, and body fluids—alongside meticulously annotated data awaiting future scientific exploration. This resource ensures that breakthroughs continue to emerge from the heart of CCHE 57357 and will enable researchers to delve deeper into the genetic factors of cancer, paving the way for discoveries and therapies.

CCHE 57357 is currently introducing the “Future Scientist Club”, which is an innovative program designed to inspire and nurture young minds with a passion for science and research. We aim to cultivate a new generation of researchers who will sustain our mission and contribute to the global scientific community. Through hands-on experiences and mentorship, we invest in the bright minds leading tomorrow’s scientific breakthroughs.

We sincerely thank H.E. Sheikh Nahyan Mabarak Al Nahyan, Dr. Maryam bin Matar, and the UAE Genetic Diseases Association for recognizing our efforts. Together, we continue to make significant strides in the fight against childhood cancer, paving the way for a healthier future.

Under the patronage of Stio Life Science Co. SIS, Hospital 57357 celebrates World Hand Hygiene day May 8, 2023

Today, May 2nd, 2023, Hospital 57357 celebrated the World Hand Hygiene day, in attendance of Dr. Nagwa Khamis, head of 57357’s infection control department, Dr. Shaymaa Elmenyawi, head of the Hospital’s quality control department, Dr. Golsen Saleh, head of the clinical nutrition department, a group of the Hospital’s infection control specialists and a large number of nurses from all departments. The celebration was also attended by a delegation from SIS, which is one of the renowned companies in infection control and sterilizing products. The delegation was headed by Mr. Emad Elgabas, sales general manager and a group of the company’s department managers.

It is noteworthy that the World Health Organization, WHO, celebrates World Hand Hygiene day annually on May 5th, where this year’s slogan is “save lives – clean your hands”. Hospital 57357 celebrates this day annually through the infection control department, to raise awareness of the importance of cleaning hands specially for healthcare givers to protect patients’ lives and prevent the spread of diseases that may result from pollution.

The celebration started with the word of Dr. Khamis, who expressed her satisfaction with the Hospital’s achievements in the field of infection control and the efforts her department exerts together with all other departments to follow up on the application of strict infection control measures , which singles out the Hospital as an example to follow in that domain. She revealed that committing to a simple procedure such as washing hands eliminates 50% of infections in hospitals, where without this procedure patients and healthcare givers’ lives are exposed to infection. She also welcomed SIS’s patronage of the celebration.

In his speech, Mr. Elgabas affirmed the company’s enthusiasm to support 57357’s celebration through this day and its role in spreading awareness of cleanliness to reduce diseases.

A WHO’s hand hygiene day celebration video was displayed, followed by a video by Hospital 57357 through which Dr. Sali Mohyeldin, from the infection control department, presented information about the importance of cleaning and sterilizing hands. Also a video prepared by the Hospital’s infection control department about washing hands was displayed.

At the end of the celebration there was a competition around hand hygiene information for healthcare givers with the participation of nurses attending the celebration. The winner team received an honorary cup, meanwhile SIS distributed giveaways to all attendees as an expression of gratitude for the efforts of Hospital’s employees to commit to highest infection control standards.

Thanks to your support, we shall celebrate the feast with hope and joy April 19, 2023

Since the Hospital’s inception, many children were cured and got back their laughter, and many others are still fighting while dreaming of cure.

The burden is great and the cost is high, but we are committed to provide the best service, and eager to carry on with continuous development and progress. We always pursue new achievements, and our doors are opened for anybody who would like to see for himself where donations are utilized.

We increased the number of beds, launched the services of the cyberknife, which is a leap in radiotherapy, getting ready to open the proton therapy building, and preparing to expand the bone marrow transplantation unit, which will contribute to saving more cases of high risk and relapsing cancer.

We pursue continuous improvement of operations of the different departments and up-grading of equipment and labs. Our research department has produced research studies that are published in major international journals. We have saved many high risk cases and carried out complex surgeries. We also offer education and training for doctors, pharmacists and nurses from Egypt, Africa and the Arab countries.

We will keep dreaming for a bright future for our children, it is true that we have a long waiting list, but no favoritism, and every patient is admitted in his turn. We offer the best medical and psychological care to all our patients equally.

From the depth of our hearts, we thank you for your trust and your support to our children during the tough circumstances. Thanks be to God and to your support that enabled us to pursue our mission and save more children, making them smile again, and enjoying the feast with their families.

We wish you a happy blessed feast, and promise you to pursue our mission as long as there are kind hearted people who support us.

As prophet Mohamed said, “The acts most pleasing to God are those which are done most continuously, even if they amount to little.”
