This course is designed to introduce undergraduate and graduate level Students in biology or related fields to the field of bioinformatics. Introduction to bioinformatics course focuses on fundamental concepts of bioinformatics information retrieval from biological data biological sequence analysis applications of sequence alignment and molecular evolution.

By the end of the module, participant will be able to:
1- Databases and Resources
• understand what databases are and why they are used
• classify different types of biological database

2- Sequence Alignment
• understand what are the Pairwise sequence alignment algorithms and why they are used
• Differentiate all the blast flavours and when they are used
• Explain the different algorithms of Multiple sequence alignment

3- Applications of multiple sequence alignment
• predict Patterns in proteins; Motifs & profile analysis; 3D structure determination
• Choose the right sequences with the right software

4- Molecular Evolution and Phylogenetic
• Understand the evolutionary models
• Build phylogenetic tree by different methods
