Learning to Lead 2023

Many nurses are in leadership roles, overseeing a team of colleagues or managing a patient care unit. They are not only support patients in doing what they are unable to do for themselves, but they also manage their care towards improved health.
This program is designed to equip nurses with the necessary skills to effectively manage both patients and staff. Topics covered include conflict resolution, interprofessional communication, coaching, and delegation, which are essential components of successful leadership and management strategies.

• Describe key aspects of the work environment in which nurses assume leadership roles and functions and how it influences caregiving and management practices.
• Depict the transitions that nurses make either temporarily or permanently from the role of caregiver to the role of leader or manager.
• Identify supervisory practices that promote good performance, workforce commitment and professional satisfaction.
• Identify key skills that nurses should develop to excel as leaders and managers whether they are shift or managers in full-time management positions.
• Describe important intrapersonal and coaching skills, such as communication, delegation, and
• feedback that promote mutual respect and solid teamwork.
• Discuss ways to evaluate outcomes at the end of the shift.
