Practical Biomedical Research Course
Overview
Throughout this course, we will embark on an exciting journey of exploring the vast concepts of biomedical research, and we will explore its concepts, from the very basic definition of the scientific method to the final steps of the publication process and responding to the reviewers and revisions. We will also highlight future directions in biomedical research and possible opportunities. This comprehensive course is designed to equip participants with the practical skills and knowledge needed to excel in the field of biomedical research. Participants will be engaged in hands-on activities, group discussions, case studies, and assignments that allow them to have the chance to apply what they have learned and gain valuable insights into the fascinating world of biomedical research.
Learning Objectives
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of biomedical research, including distinguishing between basic, translational, and clinical research, and exploring the entire process from idea to publication.
- Learn to define research questions, design experiments, address ethical issues, and master literature reviews, including search strategies and critical appraisal.
- Develop research protocols, understand variables, controls, randomization, and differentiate between quantitative and qualitative research methods.
- Master scientific writing, including structuring papers, maintaining clarity, proper citation practices, and preparing manuscripts for submission and peer review.
- Navigate the publishing landscape, understand open access vs. traditional publishing, recognize predatory journals, build an academic profile, and prepare for effective research presentations.
