Hospital 57357 celebrates Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

With the slogan “a hero made of gold”, the Children’s Cancer Hospital 57357 celebrated Childhood Cancer Awareness Month on Sept, 29th 2021, in attendance of a big number of patients and their families and a group of physicians from different disciplines along with the “Baddelha Fi Alkheir” initiative. The day’s program was organized by Hospital 57357’s L&D awareness unit.

The celebration started with 2 cartoon films about cancer cure powered by “Marawan & Superman” and “Cinderella”, all of whom are of great help to 57357’s children. Next, sheikh Mahmoud Elshobky from the moral support unit gave a message about the blessings in our lives.

Dr. Mohamed Sedki, pediatric oncology consultant, talked about how to detect cancer in the initial stage, the symptoms that should be noticed, and how to detect the disease when symptoms are similar to those of another disease. He also talked about the most common types of cancer, namely leukemia, brain cancer and lymphoma.

Dr. Golsen Saleh, head of the clinical nutrition department, provided important information about the role of nutrition in cancer prevention: eating healthy fresh food rich in vitamins and avoiding processed and fast food.

Dr. Hossam Shash, oral and maxillofacial surgery consultant, provided important information on how to take care of teeth. He replied to children and parents’ inquiries about the best way to brush teeth and how to protect them.

The nursing department provided instructions on how to give. children medications at home by means of injections, and they answered many questions.

Dr. Ahmed Adel, psychiatry specialist demonstrated the best way for families to deal with the child after diagnosis. He provided answers for mothers’ questions about their experience with their children. He stressed on the importance of boosting the children’s security feelings within the family and in the Hospital to enable them to go through treatment without fear and have faith in recovery.

At the end of the celebration Captain Sherif Faransa, the presenter of “Hosa program” presented sports exercises and children followed his movements.

It is noteworthy that the awareness department is always eager to spread information about early cancer detection and prevention and guidelines on how to have a healthy life style among the members of the community. They also provide information to patients and families on how to stay healthy during the treatment journey. Their “Home without cancer” campaigns are diffused through TV, booklets,YouTube ads, website and lectures at schools and universities.
