For three days Hospital 57357 presented the world latest researches and technologies in pediatric brain tumors in attendance of representatives from all around the world. The Hospital presented its intensive experience in brain cancers including the rare types that passed through during its 13 years of operation. The conference is held under the patronage of Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghafar, Minister of High Education, with the honorary presidents, Dr. Sherif Abuel Naga, Executiuve Director of the Children’s Cancer Foundation and the Hospital’s General Manager, and Dr. Mohamed Hafez Ramadan, head of neurosurgery department of Cairo University.
The conference discussed the removal of brain tumors using latest surgical techniques such as the surgical navigator, intra-operative sonar and MRI that are used to confirm the complete removal of the tumor. The conference also discussed latest researches in chemo and radiotherapy.
In his speech Dr. Abuel Naga stressed on the thirteen years long success story of the Hospital depending on quality healthcare provision as well as smart education and researches.
The conference was headed by Dr. Mohamed Albeltagy, head of 57357’s neurosurgery department and founder of the African Association for Pediatric Brain Tumors, presented the ratio of neurosurgeries success in 57357, which reached 73% in malignant tumors and 97% in benign tumors. He said that the Hospital had 940 brain tumor cases during the last year, and that most of them are in the brain posterior chamber.
The conference included training workshops for physicians on latest technologies in the field such as latest sonar device combined with surgery navigation device which help removing deep tumors safely without affecting sensation centers of the brain.
40 speakers shared in the conference from USA, Germany, Italy, Canada, France, Cost Arica and Brazil, and from Africa there were strong attendance from Nigeria, Uganda, Morocco, Ethiopia, Cameron, Sudan and Algeria. The conference was attended by brain surgeon and oncologists from the world biggest universities such as Boston Hospital of Harvard University and universities of Chicago, New York, Utah, Colorado in the USA and grace field, Hanover and Tubingen in Germany, Marseille in France, Saw Paulo in Brazil and Toronto in Canada.
The conference titled “Africa facing the future” stressed on cooperation with African countries and on Hospital 57357’s role in exchanging international experiences in the field of brain tumors.
