In  attendance of Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, minister of youth and sports, Dr. Amr Ezzat, chairman of 57357’s board of trustees, Ibrahim Safwat, founder of Cairo runners and captain Khaled Bibo, former star of Al Ahli team , the details of the Cairo marathon were announced. In his speech, Dr. Sobhi stressed on the importance of sports and qualified it as the ministry’s highest concerns for its contribution to enhancing youth’s moral standards. Sobhi affirmed that, the State gives much attention to sports as per President Abdel Fattah Elsisi’s directives.

Dr. Sobhi revealed that the outcome of the marathon goes to Hospital 57357 as it supports Egypt’s children who have cancer. He prompted the youth and all the Egyptian society to support 57357’s children. Dr. Ezzat stressed on the event’s societal dimension and highlighted President Elsisi’s  continuous follow up and motivation for youth to practice sports.

Dr. Safwat thanked the minister for the efforts exerted by the ministry for organizing the marathon. The marathon will be launched on Friday, March 15th at 6:00am in front of Alhoreya park in downtown Cairo where competitors will head to the riverside and return back.

The marathon will be categorized into distances for professionals and others for non-professionals to encourage everyone to take part therein. The marathon categories are as follows : 42 kilometers for professionals, 21 and 10 kilometers for amateurs and 2 kilometers for family race.
