Training and Qualifying Social Workers

The medical social service of the Children’s Cancer Hospital is seeking to promote the level of qualification of social workers who work in the field of oncology, enabling them to develop professional practice that is based on evidence-based rules according to international standards of social service. The Hospital is doing this through establishing training courses for social workers in the field of oncology.

The professional course is composed of three levels: Introductory, Specialized, and advanced levels

• Introductory level, through this level, we highlight cancer, its diagnosis and treatment methods in general, while concentrating on the negative reactions of the patient and family, and how to deal with it


• Specialized level, through this level, we tackle the social worker’s role and skills in the field of oncology according to medical specialization..


• Advanced level, this level highlights work skills in different healthcare fields such as palliative care, hospice care and after recovery care. This level stresses on the negative health developments that cancer patient may experience, consequently his social and psychological needs and how to fulfill them as well as the skills the social worker should have in order to deal with the abovementioned healthcare fields.

Completing the first level is a prerequisite for the specialized and advanced levels.

The Hospital also provides training for students of sociology, on social work skills and how to deal with patients, which leads to graduating professional social workers who are able to fulfill their responsibilities.

Research:

The psychosocial and spiritual department of 57357 undergoes research implementation and publication aiming to reach the highest standards of quality and most updated management plan suitable for our patients.
