Oncology doctors: the device serves all Egypt’s patients

Radiotherapy professors in Anatolia center in Turkey: cyberknife is a great achievement for Hospital 57357, and we trust the results of the treatment and the efficiency of 57357’s physicians.

A group of oncology professors from Egypt and outside Egypt participated in the cyberknife event organized by Hospital 57357. They asserted that having cyberknife in Egypt for the first time is a great achievement for Hospital 57357 and a leap in cancer treatment in Egypt.

The event started with a review for the Hospital journey starting with its establishment, and the continuous developments it went through until the launch of  the cyberknife. The Hospital manager  highlighted the efforts exerted by an entire work team from different specialties (medical engineering, constructional engineering, design and IT) that was behind the great achievement. They exerted great efforts in studying, negotiations, contracts, implementation, design, constructions, installation and finishing, in addition to connecting the device technologically to the parent company in America, and connecting it to the Hospital network on the other side.

Dr. Saad Zaghloul presented a group of cases that have been treated during the period from August, 25 to November, 9, amounting to 28 cases including 4 children. The cases included various tumors such as brain tumors, prostate, spinal cord, pituitary gland and others.

I was impressed by that Hospital, starting with its establishment story, its up to date labs, its infrastructure and the future plans. I salute all your efforts  and express my appreciation to all of those who shared in this achievement”.

We have 13 cyberknife devices in Turky, and having it in Hospital 57357 is a great achievement. I am confident that 57357’s work team will use the device with professionalism, and I’ll be keen to follow up patients’ treatment in the Hospital after using the technology.

Dr. Medhat Alsebaei: a leap in radiotherapy and continuous cooperation with 57357

Having this device in Egypt for the first time is considered a leap in radiotherapy, as the traditional radiation may cause irreversible damages to the patient, said Dr. Alsebaei, head of radiotherapy and nuclear medicine in the Cancer Institute, Cairo University. Meanwhile, the cyberknife enables directing precise radiation dose to the tumor area accurately, while protecting surrounding tissues, which give the chance to increase the radiation dose safely, consequently eliminating the tumor in the shortest time, added Dr. Alsebaei.

Dr. Reem Emad: safe and effective treatment with the least number of sessions                        

As oncologists, we were waiting for the introduction of the cyberknife in Egypt, said Dr. Reem Emad, Hermil Hospital Director. It is a very important device that the world have been using for 10 years. Among its advantages is that it enables directing a high dose of radiation accurately to the tumor, while protecting surrounding tissues, consequently it helps the fast elimination of the tumor with the least number of sessions. Among its advantages also is that it treats multiple types of tumors such as liver, lung, prostate, brain and spinal cord tumors. We are happy that the first device is in Hospital 57357, which is a non-profit Hospital, and the income of this device will be used to offer children free treatment, added Dr. Emad.

Dr. Amr Hwaity: we are accustomed to see 57357’s continuous achievements

We are accustomed to witnessing 57357’s continuous achievements, and having the cyberknife technology is a big leap in radiotherapy in Egypt, said Dr. Amr Hwaity, oncology consultant. We have a big deficiency in this field, and we have long waiting lists at the Gamaknife Center, hence when we offer the patients higher technology without waiting lists, it is a great achievement, added Dr. Hwaity.

The scientific day activities included lectures by the cyberknife specialists in 57357, to acquaint the audience with the equipment, its advantages, its uses and 57357 experience in using it in treatment and its results. Among the lecturers were Dr. Mohamed Saad Zaghloul, head of radiotherapy in Hospital 57357, Dr. Azza Nasr, radiotherapy consultant, Dr. Hani Ammar, head of medical physics department and Dr. Hali Kalgar, from Anatolia Center in Turkey.
