Pediatric Radiation Oncology - Track 3

The duration of the program is 18 months. The training is primarily based at CCHE57357 with 4 month rotation at the DFBC and MGH , Boston MA.

The program incurs both didactic sessions as well as practical and clinical rotations in various disciplines mainly Neuro-oncology;  Lymphoma & Leukemia including TBI; Lymphoma & Leukemia including TBI; Abdominopelvic tumors including Wilms'; Neuroblastoma; benign and rare tumors; Bone and Soft tissue Sarcomas; and Brachytherapy and intra-operative Radiotherapy. The fellow will be involved in various departmental activities, journal club and assignments. Regular Quartile performance assessment and feedback will be performed.

During the  DFBC/ MGH rotation, the fellows receive further training in patient management, advanced techniques and team collaboration will be given. Fellows will also receive training in Proton Therapy training and Cyber Knife.

Each module includes the proper way of history taking, diagnosis, planning, delineation, planning acceptance, verification, quality assurance and follow up to detect immediate and late toxicities, survival and quality of life (QoL).

Our fellows  are trained to be competent beyond their role as clinical and technical experts. Our Fellows are required to be excellent communicators, to work in a close and collaborative fashion with radiation therapists, medical physicists, surgeons, medical oncologists, palliative care physicians and radiologists amongst others; to practice evidence-based medicine, and to take part in research and other academic pursuits, including teaching. These skills and expertise enhance the value of the specialty for the community. They are required to advocate effectively for their patients and for their profession.
