For the 5th year in a row, Hospital 57357 celebrated world patient safety day on September 10th which is organized by the Hospital’s quality department. This event falls yearly on Sept. 17th as per the WHO. This year’s event carries the following theme: Engaging patients for patients’ safety. This year, we were honored with the participation of Dr. Naema Al Kosair, representative of the WHO in Egypt and the Middle East through video-conference.Present at 57357’s celebration were Dr. Wael Eweida, operations manager, on behalf of the hospital’s GM, Dr. Sherif Abouel Naga and a group of department heads including quality, clinical pharmacy, research, Engineering, Medical Eng., environment, labs, nursing, human resources, infectious diseases, and a group of physicians and healthcare professionals. Dr. Wael Eweida gave a welcoming word and highlighted that since its inception, the Hospital is operating according and in commitment to patient safety standards which is one of the reasons behind its provision of top quality care to its children with cancer.As for Dr. Mohamed Aggag, Alterna’s GM, he stressed the fact that the Hospital is depending for its operation on the most up to date medical equipment and technology which have the particularity of maximizing patient safety and reducing chances of human errors.Dr. Naema Al Kosair , WHO representative, thanked the hospital for its efforts to pursue maximum patient safety and engaging its patients towards that pursuit through listening to their concerns and addressing them immediately as well as informing them  constantly about their condition. She added that when patients are treated as partners in quality care delivery, much is gained in terms of patient safety and patient satisfaction which leads ultimately to improved patient outcome Shaimaa el Minyawy, head of 57357’s quality de department shared that the hospital has been celebrating that day for a whole week with awareness and training proceedings for the staff around the importance of listening to patients and responding to their queries as well as informing them of healthy sanitary guidelines which ensure their safety during their treatment journey. She also highlighted how all the health care professionals and hospital administrators are applying safety and sanitary standard guidelines since the admission of the patient till he leaves the Hospital. The celebration featured a lecture by D. Ola Mohamed, awareness and service surplus head, on how at 57357 we engage our patients in patient safety as well as a lecture by Dr. Amina Hamdi, Manager Day-care and patient relations sections, on a patient’s experience in 57357.At the end of the event , those who had a positive impact towards maximizing patient safety as well as those who provide direct services to the patients were honored.
