The program aims to enhance pharmaceutical practices and pharmacist’s skills and expertise

Within the framework of 57357’s commitment to share its leading expertise in clinical pharmacy and to support the enhancement of skills of Egyptian and Arab pharmacists , the Hospital 57357’s clinical pharmacy department  received 17 trainees (9 trainees from Egypt, 7 from Saudi Arabia and 1 from Jordan), to study the resident pharmacist program which is accredited by the American Society of Health System Pharmacist, ASHP,  57357 being  the first Hospital in Africa to receive this accreditation.

According to Dr. Mohamed Nagui, head of 57357’s clinical pharmacy department , the resident pharmacist program is one of several offered by the continuous medical education department of the Hospital, to improve qualifications of healthcare professionals. The program started in 2018 and aims to develop pharmaceutical practices and prepare and enable qualified pharmacists to apply what they studied. This is a one year program through which the student is exposed to all clinical pharmacy specialties which are 33. Throughout the last four years, cohorts graduated from the program to contribute to making change and improvement in the clinical pharmacy field.

ASHP is one of the most important world organizations responsible for the application of clinical pharmacy programs. The goal of ASHP is to enhance and expand the role of pharmacists as providers of comprehensive medication management in all settings towards improving patients outcome.  In 2018, ASHP visited 57357, and issued a report which confirmed the eligibility of  Hospital 57357 to start the international resident pharmacist program in its premises. Members of the Association are following up and making periodical visits to ensure performance quality.

Hospital 57357 is considered a leader in the clinical pharmacy field in Egypt, and is credited  for having introduced this specialty in many Ministry of Health and university hospitals, in and outside Egypt through training their pharmacy professionals.

According to Dr. Ibrahim Abdo, the department witnessed expansion and acquisition of new devices that contributed to increasing precision , speed of performance and awareness support of patient and his family with respect to medication usage and effects.
