The program aims to improve pharmaceutical practices and enhance pharmacist’s qualifications, scientifically and professionally

Hospital 57357’s clinical pharmacy department started the training of the sixth cohort of students of the resident pharmacist program that consists of 15 students from Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The program  lasts one year and aims to improve their qualifications in clinical pharmacy.

According to Dr. Mohamed Nagui, head of the clinical pharmacy department, it is one of the programs adopted by hospital 57357’s continuous education department, and accredited by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists, ASHP, being the first hospital in Africa to receive this accreditation.

The program started in 2018 aiming to improve pharmaceutical practices, provide education to prepare a qualified pharmacist capable of applying what he has studied. The study lasts one year during which the student receives training in all the clinical pharmacy subspecialties which amount to 33 . During the last five years, graduates of the program are contributing to making a change in the clinical pharmacy field,

ASHP is considered one of the most important global associations responsible for the applications, practices and procedures of clinical pharmacy. The Association visited Hospital 57357 in 2018 and reported the compliance to all international standards, norms and qualifications that enable it to start the resident pharmacist international program. The Association is committed to following up and periodically visiting the Hospital to ensure the continuity of quality performance.

Hospital 57357 is a leader in clinical pharmacy in Egypt, and it contributed to the introduction of this specialty in many of the Ministry of health and university hospitals  inside and outside Egypt through  training medical cadres. According to Dr. Ibrahim Abdo, deputy manager of clinical pharmacy, the department witnessed great development, expansions, and new equipment that contributed to increasing accuracy, speeding performance, reducing overcrowding and providing awareness about medication usage and effects to patient and family. Moreover, the spaces where the medication doses are prepared were redesigned according to international standards in terms of performance, air quality and automation of process to ensure safety and accuracy.
